September 3rd is Drexciya Day, an annual global celebration held in memory of James Stinson, the visionary co-founder of the influential Detroit aquatic techno and electro duo Drexciya.
What is Drexciya Day?
• The Date: Celebrated every year on September 3rd, marking the anniversary of James Stinson's passing in 2002.
• The Legacy: It honors Stinson and Gerald Donald's pioneering electronic music project, which emerged from Detroit in the early 1990s.
• The Mythology: Drexciya is famous for its intricate Afrofuturist mythology centered on an underwater aquatic civilization populated by the unborn children of pregnant African women thrown overboard during the Middle Passage
