Biography
Steve Horne, also credited as Steven Horne, The Horn and Even Steven, is an electronic producer based in Taunton, in the south-west of England. His catalogue moves between house, techno, electro, IDM and more off-centre electronic forms, with a body of work that reaches back to the mid-1990s.
Horne’s early releases appeared through Universal Language Productions and Mark Pritchard’s Evolution label. That period included Hornography, an album originally released in 1997, and work with Pritchard under the name Series 7. The Evolution releases sit within a wider era of adventurous UK electronic music, when artists moved fluidly between techno, ambient, electro and experimental dance music.
Horne also became involved in Z-Bop, the label established in the early 2000s as a collaboration with David Kempston, better known as Clatterbox, along with Goliath and Nanobot. Horne released as Even Steven, while Z-Bop connected a circle of electronic producers from south-west England. His Even Steven releases include Heatseeker E.P. and Fiscal Glitches.
Years later, older material found a new audience. “Villager” was included on Workshop 21, bringing attention back to Horne’s earlier work. Klasse Wrecks followed with The Counter Counter Offer, a collection of music made between 1994 and 2018. The label’s release notes describe a deep archive of recordings and demos, and explain that Luca Lozano’s remix of “Villager” helped prompt the collection.
Horne continues to release music independently through the-horn.bandcamp.com, which gathers work under The Horn and Even Steven alongside archival releases. Rather than treating the early records as a closed chapter, the ongoing catalogue makes the project feel like a continuous studio practice: old recordings, re-presented material and newer productions sit side by side.
